In the Algarve you can enjoy various Portuguese specialities and drinks. There is a variety of fish, wines and other delicacies. From our own experience, we can recommend the Esporão Reserva branco. This wine fits perfectly with a typical Portuguese fish stew called Cataplana de Marisco. We also recommend trying a fresh Pastel de Nata, a delicious Portuguese pastry which you should definitely try.

Esporão Reserva branco

This is an award-winning Portuguese white wine that is creamy on the palate with lots of ripe fruit like peach and tangerine, supported by the influence of the oak. The finish is very nicely balanced and long. This wine is excellent with grilled fish and shellfish, veal, poultry or mature cheese.

Cataplana de Marisco

When you look in the local restaurants of the Algarve, you will immediately notice the large ball pans. In these pans, which are also called Cataplana, the locals prepare many dishes. One of the most famous dishes is Cataplana de Marisco of which fresh seafood is the main ingredient! The dish is a kind of stew filled with wine, tomatoes, herbs and all kinds of fish depending on what has been caught recently.
